As a junior, Marques Simas had 41 catches for 875 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was named first team all-league, CIF and state under-class.
"I catch everything," he claims. "I am great at route-running. I mean, I can really stick a route. I am hard to guard because I am usually bigger than the players covering me."
The outstanding receiver prospect will see time on both sides of the ball this season. "I am going to be a corner and a free safety. I hope to play free safety a little more."
Simas currently has written offers from Oregon State, Colorado, Boise State, and San Diego State. "I forget if it was Boise or Colorado that offered me first. But, I also have verbal offers from Nebraska and Clemson."
However, only a couple of the interested parties are on Simas' top list. "My top three are USC, UCLA and San Diego State. I would say 'SC is at the top. After all, they are the national champs. I also like Clemson and would not mind hearing from Arizona State."
The Simas family seems to have a favorite of their own. "My family wants me to go to San Diego State. I have two cousins there and my Uncle went there. He is a real big Aztecs fan."
One thing is for sure, he would like to stay out west, if possible. "I would like to stay in Southern California because it is close to home. But, if I feel that the best way to go is out east, I am open to that."
He is willing to learn more about CU. "I need more info on Colorado. I spoke with a coach there. (He believes it was Coach Kent Riddle) He told me to just keep doing what I was doing and taking care of my grades and that he hopes I can come to Colorado."
Simas has attended junior days at USC, UCLA and San Diego State. He'll be at the Scout.com combine in L.A. next month and also at the 'SC skills camp this summer.
He is unsure of his current GPA. "I recently made up some classes so I am not positive what it is right now."
Simas will be taking the SAT in May and is undecided on a major.
