Buffs Offer St. Louis Running Back

There is no doubt Colorado is looking to take one to two running backs this recruiting cycle with depth running low. They offered their second running back in the past two weeks as last Thursday, Thomas Merriweather from St. Louis received a scholarship letter. The tailback is open to the Buffs and has aspirations of leaving Missouri.

As a junior, Thomas Merriweather rushed for 1,421 yards and 25 touchdowns on 172 carries. He also caught six passes for 43 yards and a touchdown. Merriweather was named St. Louis Post-Dispatch first-team all-metro. He became the starting running back midway through his sophomore season. "I have great vision, explosiveness and balance," Merriweather says of his skills.

He has written offers from Colorado, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, and Indiana. "I like all the schools that have offered me, except probably Missouri. I want to leave the state and my parents want me to, also. I also like Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan State. I don't have any real favorite."

Merriweather claims that the schools that have offered, plus Iowa are recruiting the hardest.

New Colorado Defensive Coordinator Ron Collins is recruiting the back for CU. "I have not talked to him on the phone, yet, but he is sending me info. I like Colorado's history. I mean, they don't have a great history but they have put out some good running backs."

He attended a junior day at Nebraska and might go with his team to the Iowa camp. Merriweather may also take in the Wisconsin camp.

He joins teammate, fullback William Anderson, to form the best fullback/tailback combo in the Show Me state. The two combined for over 2,100 yards rushing as juniors.

Merriweather carries a 2.5 core GPA and recently took the ACT and is awaiting the score. He would like to major in Business Management.
