Buffs Add New York D-Tackle to '06 class

Quick Buff Fans! Name the last player from New York that Colorado landed?!? I can't think of anyone either. That has all changed as CU signed a defensive tackle yesterday from Long Island. D-tackle is a major need position for the Buffs and this signee sounds like he could play early with his size. A look at the newest Buff.

Height: 6-2
Weight: 308
From: Hewlett, New York
High School: George W. Hewlett

Colorado landed their third defensive tackle prospect for the 2006 class yesterday as Ian Assael from Hewlett, New York signed with the Buffs. The 6-2, 308-pound prospect waited until after signing day to send in his papers. The word is that he also had interest from Virginia, Syracuse and the Ivy League before deciding on the Buffs. But, it is not known what other schools had offered, if any.

The lineman played at guard and d-tackle this season and was an all-Nassau pick after recording 53 tackles and four sacks. He was named second team all-Long Island as a junior.

The Buffalo Sports News will attempt so speak with Assael in the coming days to get the full lowdown on the newest Buff.
