"I committed to Coach Dariam Hagan and head coach Dan Hawkins about 10 minutes ago," Smith said. "Coach (Dan) Hawkins seemed pretty excited. I only spoke to him briefly, because he was at a function."
The obvious question would be what lured the Pittsburgher to Colorado?
"Coach Hawkins saw me at a combine and liked me as a corner. they are losing six defensive backs, so I feel I can play early there. For me it was never about distance, just where could I play early."
Smith has committed without seeing the campus, so when does the Viking standout plan on checking out his new team?
"We are planning on taking a trip out there in July," he said.
Smith chose the Buff's over overs from Arizona State, Toledo and Temple.
As a junior, Smith earned second-team Associated Press Class AAAA, first team PA Football News All-State, and first team All-WPIAL honors.
He ran for more than 2,000 yards and scored 29 touchdowns, last season.
If you want an evaluation on Smith, what he told us in an earlier interview sums it up.
"My play speaks for itself. I'm very physical for my size and I shut down receivers. I'm a strong man-to-man cover corner. My speed is a big asset at that position, too. I have great speed, vision and quickness."
