Buffs Offer SoCal Tight End

Colorado's depth at tight end is low despite signing a couple players at the spot last class. The staff is on the lookout to add a player, or two at the position this recruiting cycle. They just recently officially offered Devin Mahina from Upland, California. He speaks with the BSN to give us his thoughts on the Buffs.

As a junior, Devin Mahina had eight catches for 180 yards at tight end despite playing behind Oregon State-signee, John Reese. On defense, at defensive end, he tallied 50 tackles and three sacks. Most schools are recruiting him as a tight end and that is his position of preference. "I have good footwork, speed and hands for the position," Mahina claims. "I am a good blocker and I have a good first step. I explode off the ball."

Schools that like him on both sides of the ball include BYU, UCLA, Oregon, and Utah.

He has written offers from Colorado, BYU, UCLA, Oregon, Washington State, and UTEP. "I also have verbal offers from Utah and Arizona. Both of them say my offer will be in the mail real soon."

Mahina, an LDS patron, is looking hardest at three schools. "My top choices right now are BYU, UCLA and Oregon. But, I am still wide open and looking at everyone."

Colorado is one of the schools he is open to. "They are still in it for me. Coach Cabral and I text message at least once a week. I like the weather there and they have a great tradition."

Mahina does not plan on attending any summer camps.

He carries a 3.13 core GPA and is awaiting the SAT result from his May 6th testing. Mahina is thinking of a major in Sports Medicine.
