As a junior, James Rogers rushed for a little over 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns while averaging 9.8 yards a carry. At receiver, he had 400 yards on 24 catches. Rogers was named first team all-league and honorable mention all-area.
Colorado was the first school to take the plunge and send a written offer Rogers' way at the beginning of last month. Since then, he has received written offers from Ball State, Central Michigan and Bowling Green. All schools are recruiting him as a running back.
Rogers is favoring the Buffs. "Colorado is my number one choice right now," he says. "I am also waiting to see if Purdue offers and if Michigan State will do anything. I also like Michigan and Cincinnati. The Michigan State coaches want me to come to their one-day camp and then they may make a final decision on an offer."
If the Spartans offer, where will the Buffs stand for his services? "I would think about the offer from Michigan State, but I really like Colorado and they will be tough to beat. The Colorado coaches tell me I would be a perfect fit there. They like me at running back, but also think that I could get a look at receiver. Coach Hagan has told me what I would need to do to come in there and earn a starting spot."
Rogers says that his parents do not really have a favorite although his father is a big fan of Notre Dame.
His decision could be coming real soon. "I want to get it over with before my senior year, probably by the end of July I want to commit."
Rogers carries a 2.79 core GPA and is taking the SAT this weekend. He would like to major in Pre-Law or Business.
