CU Lands First Offensive Lineman of the Class

Dan Hawkins has stated profusely how his Colorado teams will be built around the trenches. The most important positions are the offensive and defensive lines, quarterback and cornerback. He is holding true to these statements as the first four commits of the class, including the latest one, all fall into the aforementioned positions. Here is a look at the latest Buff, Guard/Center Shawn Daniels.

As a junior, Shawn Daniels was named second team all-conference. "I am aggressive on the field," Daniels emphatically states. "I go to my opponents. I do not wait for them to come to me. I am a tough player and I feel I am quick. I try to be stronger than my opponents."

Daniels attended the CU camp that just ended and received some good news afterwards. "Coach Strausser told me they he would text message me after the camp. When he did, he asked me to call him and then he offered me. I committed on the spot. I have been going to their camps since I was eight years old. It is a dream offer for me. The coaches were very excited I committed."

Before becoming a Buff, Daniels had written offers from Colorado State, Boise State and Wyoming. "Washington State and Iowa State were also interested."

The lineman had a good time working with his future position coach. "Coach Strausser is very knowledgeable and great to work with. He is an exciting guy."

The position Daniels will be placed at is undetermined. "They have not told me if it will be center or guard. I am flexible and can work anywhere along the line so it doesn't matter to me where I play."

When the players split into groups and did team drills at the camp, Daniels was teamed up with fellow commit Matthew Ballenger, plus Ryan Miller and Keith Otis. "We killed everybody. Miller has real good feet and the quarterback threw a nice ball."

Since older brother, Brian Daniels, has been a stalwart on the CU offensive line for the past three years, he was happy to hear little bro committed to the Buffs. "He definitely wants me to go there and always has. He has a lot of good memories and things to say about his time there so it is something I can't wait to be a part of. Now I just have to prepare myself to play in the Big 12."

Daniels carries a 3.2 core GPA and has already achieved a qualifying SAT score. He would like to major in Business or Sports Medicine.
