"It was great," Garth Gerhart said emphatically about his unofficial trip to Boulder. "I got there last Friday and got to see the end of practice. From there I was able to speak with the coaches and sit in on the after-practice meetings.
"The next day the coaches took me on a tour then I had a meeting with Coach Hawkins. After, that I watched practice again and sat in on more meetings. Then I met with some academic people."
What exactly was said in the meeting with CU's new head man? "He told me about his way of coaching and how he does things. He also mentioned how he has the winningest record in all of college football. I also spoke with Coach Strausser. Coach Strausser was a real good coach. He is not crazy like a lot of other coaches were if you do something wrong they are right in your face, yelling. He just simply shows you what you did wrong. I really liked him."
Before, and especially after, Colorado is the definite leader for Gerhart. "Colorado is my number one without question. I also like Colorado State, Utah and Boise State. Boston College is still up there, too."
The Norco lineman has 11 written offers in all.
He made the trek to Boulder with his father and junior-to-be teammate, 6-7, 285-pounder Kyle Johnson. Gerhart's father is an assistant coach at Norco.
The possible future Buff is not sure when he will make a decision. "I really don't know right now. I have not scheduled any visits and I am not sure how many I will or won't take."
