Buffs Offer Four Star Compton Running Back

Colorado will take at least one running back this recruiting cycle is the word coming out of Boulder. Whether it is a high school or junior college RB remains to be seen. They have offered a handful of tailbacks around the nation and one of the latest is Brandon Johnson from Compton Dominguez High School.

Brandon Johnson had a steady junior season (13-1), rushing for 1,490 yards on 151 carries and scoring 24 touchdowns. No game was bigger than his 30-carry, 258-yard, 4-touchdown performance in an upset win over Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame in the CIF Division III Championship game.

He has written offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, Cal, Colorado, Mississippi State, Utah, UTEP, UNLV, and Washington State. "I have like 20 verbal offers," Johnson explains. "But those are the written ones."

The tailback is looking at five main schools right now. "I really like Oregon, Cal, USC of course, Ohio State, and Boise State. I don't really have a favorite."

After the CU offer, is there any interest in the Buffs? "Yeah, you know I played Pop Warner ball with the son of one of the coaches there, Darian Hagan. I know Colorado likes to run the ball a lot."

The only school that appears to be recruiting Johnson as a defensive back is Michigan.

Since September 1st, he has received phone calls from Boise State, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and Washington State.

In Johnson's first scrimmage, he recorded five carries afor 63 yards and a touchdown. "I think my strength is my confidence and my strength. Every time I step on the field, I think nobody can stop me. I really need to work on my footwork. I can cut good, but I want to get to where I can cut without slowing down. I need to work on my speed too."

Dominguez gets their season underway versus Pasadena, this Friday.

Johnson carries a 2.5 core GPA and scored an 870 on the SAT. He is undecided on a major.
