From Kapolei, Hawaii
High School: Kapolei
Michael Matamua was thought to be the top offensive line performer in attendance at the Hawaii Scout.com combine this past summer. He followed up his strong summer showing with a stronger season in which he figures to have averaged four pancake blocks a game. Kapolei's run ended last week with a loss in the second round of the playoffs to Kahuku. Kahuku is where Buff freshman B.J. Beatty is from.
Matamua played guard this season despite the fact that he is being recruited as an offensive tackle. "It doesn't matter to me where I play in college," Matamua said. "I just played at guard this year because they wanted me to pull a lot. Most schools tell me they like me as a left tackle.
"I work hard. If I am beat on one play I make sure I am not beat on the next play. I am a determined player."
The lineman has a visit scheduled to San Diego State, December 15th. "I want to schedule all my visits right together because my parents want to go so we can get them all done at the same time. We will be looking at west coast schools."
So does that mean there is no interest in Colorado? "You know, I haven't heard from Colorado in a long time."
Matamua claims no favorites at this point. "I just want to take my visits and then I'll figure out a favorite and where I am going."
He carries a 2.9 core GPA and scored a 1390 on the SAT. The Islander would like to major in Sociology.
