Buffs After Florida Athlete

With the desperate need for receivers this class, Colorado is diving into the Sunshine State where there is always loads of talent at the skill positions. The CU staff extended an offer to Homestead athlete A.J. Guyton last week.

A talented multi-threat quarterback in Miami Dade County, A.J. Guyton is coming off a strong senior season. He passed for 1,646 yards and 13 touchdowns to just four interceptions. He rushed for 543 yards and four touchdowns. At receiver, he caught a touchdown and on special teams he returned two punts for TD's. On defense, he had three tackles playing corner and safety in very limited action in one game. In just six games as a junior, he passed for 849 yards and five touchdowns. Running the football, he had over 200 yards and three touchdowns (averaging over 8 per carry). "I just understand the game really well," Guyton says. "I have good football smarts. I know when running lanes open up. I can beat teams running or throwing. I know how to handle the pressure in crucial situations."

Schools are recruiting Guyton at a number of positions. "A lot of them like me as a defensive back but others are saying quarterback or receiver. I don't care where I play at. I have no preference on positions."

Guyton has written offers from Colorado, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, and Ol Miss. "I have a few other verbal offers but those are the ones in writing. Central Florida recently gave me a verbal offer and I am visiting them on December 1st. That is the only visit I have scheduled right now."

When Colorado offered him last week, coaches Brown and Kiesau spoke with Guyton about taking a trip to Boulder. "They said that they like me as a receiver and that if I want to play early that that is the place to be. I don't know too much about Colorado other then it is a good school. The coaches said they want me to visit but we haven't set anything up."

Guyton carries a 2.4 core GPA and scored a 15 on his first attempt at the ACT. He is taking it again on December 9th. The athlete would like to major in Communications.
