J.J. Watt Receiving the Honors

J.J. Watt was a visitor to Boulder over the weekend with his parents. The big athlete from Wisconsin enjoyed the trip and has CU even with four other schools that have also offered. Inside, we get the scoop on the player that received first team all-state honors on offense and defense.

As a senior, J.J. Watt had 77 tackles (22.5 for losses), seven fumble recoveries, four forced fumbles, and four pass break-ups. On offense, he had 26 catches for 400 yards and five touchdowns. Watt was named first team all-conference, area, district, county (2nd team at tight end) and state at tight end AND defensive end. "I think on offense I have great hands, size and strength. I like to grab the ball and start chugging down the field," Watt boasts. "On defense, I also have good strength and size and I have good quickness around the edge."

He is also a standout basketball player as he plays center for Pewaukee and averages 17 points and nine rebounds a game.

Watt, a soft commit to Central Michigan, has written offers from CMU, Colorado, Northern Illinois, Wyoming, and now Minnesota. "Minnesota just offered me tonight. I am going to visit there this weekend. I will probably decide within two weeks between Central Michigan, Colorado and Minnesota. I am still committed to Central Michigan but I don't really have a favorite right now."

The big athlete enjoyed his trip to Boulder over the weekend. "I like Colorado. It is a beautiful place and the players and coaches are really cool. Unfortunately, I had the flu the whole time so I was in the bathroom a lot and didn't get to eat the food. The only thing about Colorado is it may be a little too far away for me. My parents loved it. They were talking about buying a vacation home there. My parents have always loved the last school they've seen, though, so we'll see what they say about Minnesota after this weekend."

Coach Bandison is recruiting Watt for the Buffs and he went by the school a couple weeks ago. "He came by the school and then he came to the house. Coach Collins was supposed to come by the school and the house today but I am pretty surprised because he didn't show up and we haven't heard from him."

Watt claims that currently Colorado and Minnesota are recruiting the hardest.

Schools that have offered like him at different positions. "Colorado and Wyoming like me as a defensive end. Minnesota, Central Michigan and Northern Illinois like me at tight end. I prefer to play tight end."

Watt carries a 3.9 core GPA and scored a 27 on the ACT. He would like to major in Business or Engineering.
