As a junior, Landry Jones was 211 of 310 for 3,433 yards and 45 touchdowns with only nine interceptions. He also rushed 57 times for 249 yards and nine touchdowns. Jones was named the state 4A player of the year. "I have a strong arm and I am accurate," Jones says. "I think I have a lot of play-making ability. I make good decisions with the ball."
The New Mexico native is one of the few juniors around the nation that can claim he already has written offers. He has them from Oregon, Colorado, Virginia, New Mexico, and New Mexico State. "I am expecting ones soon from UCLA and Wisconsin."
Jones has already unofficially visited Oregon, UCLA, Wisconsin, Colorado, and a couple camps at Oklahoma. He was in Boulder a few weeks ago for the Iowa State game. "They just showed me around the facilities and took me into the locker rooms. I liked how down-to-earth coaches Helfrich and Hawkins were."
In fact, when the Buffalo Sports News called Jones he had just gotten off the phone with Helfrich. "I stay in contact with CU quite a bit. Coach Helfrich was just talking to me about my basketball game that he went to last night."
Jones plays Center for Artesia and has led his squad to a 4-1 record on the season.
He knows Helfrich's background as a quarterbacks coach. "I think when he was at Arizona State he had two quarterbacks at one time or another with the number one pass efficiency ratings in the nation."
The top signal caller plans on making a decision just a month after signing day next year. "I want to decide by March and get it over with. Before I decide, I plan on visiting Wisconsin, Virginia and UCLA. I will also visit Colorado again."
His parents are also not favoring any one school. "I have no idea who they like. I think they are just going to let me decide."
Jones carries a 4.0 core GPA and scored a 19 on the ACT.
