Cousins is Scheduled for a Boulder Visit

The CU staff is trying to accumulate as much depth as possible on a roster that is running thin. The Colorado staff is almost out of scholarships for this class so they have recently started offering grey-shirt opportunities to players for the 2008 class. One such player is Holland, Michigan quarterback, Kirk Cousins. Inside, a look at the signal caller and his interest in CU.

As a senior, Kirk Cousins threw for 2,100 yards, 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He had a 58% passing percentage. Cousins also rushed for two touchdowns. He was named first team all-area and area player of the year. Cousins was honorable mention all-state. "I have great intangibles," Cousins boasts. "My best game is in-between my ears. I have good vision and am accurate. I am not the best athlete that will put up great combine numbers, but I have all the intangibles you can't measure."

He has current written offers from Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan. "Colorado has also offered me a grey-shirt scholarship to enroll in the spring of 2008."

Cousins visited Toledo on December 6th and took a mid-week trip to Western Michigan on December 16th. "I would say those are two schools I am really considering. I am going to visit Michigan State on January 13th. I want to see how I like the school and the coaches. I want to know more about that place.

"State is probably my top choice but it is tough to say. Their quarterbacks coach has seen me and has advised the rest of the staff to offer me. The rest of the staff just wants to get to know me better so we'll see what happens when I visit there."

Colorado is scheduled for a visit from the signal caller on January 20th, but there is no guarantee that will happen. "Toledo and Western Michigan have informed me that they need to get their quarterback committed soon or they have to look elsewhere. Both of them want me to commit as soon as possible. If I wait too long, I might miss the boat so after visiting Michigan State I will have a much better idea of what I will do and if I will visit Colorado, or not.

"I have been speaking with Coaches Helfrich and Hawkins from CU. Helfrich actually came to my house the first week in December when we had a snow day. So he went through a lot to get here. Colorado told me they have two quarterbacks in this class but would like to add another for depth reasons. They told me that because of numbers they have to offer me a grey-shirt because this class is pretty full with players they need right away. They told me I could work out and gain weight over the next year before enrolling and that could be a good idea."

Cousins carries a 4.0 core GPA and is ranked number one in his class. He scored a 29 on the ACT.

The BSN will speak with Cousins again after his January 13th visit to Michigan State.
