Coach's Corner: Joel Darcel

Inside, Mamou High head coach Joel Darcel talks about Colorado wide receiver verbal commit Kendrick Celestine.

After playing quarterback for Mamou his first three seasons, Kendrick Celestine moved to receiver his senior season, the position he'll play at Colorado. Celestine visited Boulder in November and verballed to the Buffs later that month.

BSN spoke with Mamou head coach Joel Darcel about Celestine recently.

BSN: What kind of player has he been for you?
: Since Kendrick's been playing for us, we've had 34 wins in the last four years.

BSN: So he played even as a freshman?
: Yeah, as a freshman he saw a little bit of playing time.

BSN: What are some of his strengths?
: Probably his biggest strength is he can run a 4.4 40. And I'm talking about four-four-zero. He's only 17 years old right now. He's young. So eventually, he's probably going to be a 4.3 guy. And he weighs 190 pounds. That doesn't happen often to a small school like us.

BSN: How do you think he's going to do making the transition to college ball?
: I think he's going to do great. I'll be really shocked if he doesn't see playing time as a true freshman.

BSN: What is it about Colorado that made him want to come here?
: One of the coaches came down here and sat down with him with a chalkboard and just gave him a list of things of why he should go to Colorado. And I think the opportunity to play early is what he saw.
