Coach's Corner: John Brandom

Inside, Corona High head coach John Brandom talks about CU verbal commit Nate Vaiomounga.

Nate Vaiomounga helped lead Corona to an 8-2 regular season last fall, including a win over rival Norco.

Corona head coach John Brandom had this to say about Vaoimounga, who is set to sign a letter of intent with Colorado on Wednesday.

BSN: What kind of player has he been for you?
: He's a great player, first of all. He's very versatile. He's played running back, defensive end, outside linebacker, safety. He can play all over the field.

He plays with tremendous passion. Snap to whistle – he's just got a great motor. He's going to be a great player.

BSN: I've heard he's a real physical player, too. Is that accurate?
: Yeah, he's extremely strong in the weightroom and that translates to the field very well. He's just a powerful explosive kid that's hard to block.

BSN: Where do you think he fits in best at the next level – safety or outside linebacker?
: He can play either one, depending on what they want to do. I think they might start him at safety. That's where he's going begin, I believe.

BSN: Do you know what it was about Colorado that he liked?
: Everything. He likes the area, the coaching staff. Andy Avalos, who's a GA (at CU) used to play for me, and he coached here before he went to Colorado. He played at Boise State and was a WAC Player of the Year two times. I know that had an influence.

BSN: I know there was some question about Nate qualifying. Do you know how that's coming?
: Yeah, he's on his way. He'll be fine. He's done what's necessary.
