As a senior, Kealaka'i Maiava averaged 10-12 pancake blocks at center and on defense, at tackle, he had 12 tackles and a blocked field goal. Maiava was named first team all-district and state. "I am aggressive and physical," Maiava says.

When CU commit Garth Gerhart started waivering to ASU, the CU staff had to find a back-up plan at Center and they found one a couple weeks ago. Today, Gerhart committed to ASU and the staff immediately offered Kealaka'i Maiava. The Center committed tonight. "I just decided it was the right choice for me. I want to play in the Big 12. So I called Coach Cabral and he told me how excited they were. My family is also really happy about it."

He is the younger brother of safety, Kaluka Maiava, a player at USC.

Maiava is well aware of the Hawaiian and Poly pipeline going on in Boulder. "I know that Michael Sipili is there and Jordan Dizon and B.J. Beatty."

The Center prospect is also friends with another CU prospect, Sione Tau. In fact, he had just gotten off the phone with Tau before the BSN contacted him. "Sione just told me he is still deciding between Arizona and Colorado."

Coaches Strausser, Cabral and Hawkins visited Maiava last week and the prospect was impressed with what he heard. "They told me a lot about the school and how they think I could fit in there. It was a good visit and my family liked them."
