Buffs Talking to Pomona Corner

One of the better performers from California at the Scout.com Junior All-American Combine in San Antonio was Lamar Hughes from Pomona, California. Hughes was an all-league selection as a junior and has the Buffs in his top three.

As a junior, Lamar Hughes played at running back, wide receiver and corner. He had one interception and was named first team all-league on defense. "I think the thing that sets me apart is my speed and footwork," Hughes explains.

Hughes has yet to receive any offers, but he is receiving attention from quite a few schools. "I'd say my favorite schools are Michigan, Oregon State and Colorado. Those are my top three with Michigan as the leader. I have always been a fan of them. That is where the best defensive backs come out of. I also like Boise State and Oregon."

The corner's mom would like him to stay close to home. "My mom would like me to go to Cal or UCLA, or somewhere close like that. But, I definitely want to go out-of-state."

Hughes and his mom have spoken with CU coach, Brian Cabral. "We have spoken with him a couple times. Colorado seems interested in me and I appreciate that. I am going to their summer camp from June 17th to the 20th."

The CU camp is the only team camp plan he has at this point. Hughes is not yet scheduled to attend any junior days.

He carries a 2.9 core GPA and is scheduled for both tests in March. Hughes would like to major in Business Management.
