Buffs Offer Cali DT Prospect

Lawndale (Calif.) Leuzinger defensive tackle Ottis Jones picked up his first offer on Thursday, and it came from Big 12 country.

"(Colorado assistant coach) Darian Hagan came by to see Uona (Kaveinga), but he could not take his eyes off of Ottis Jones," said Leuzinger assistant coach Ralph Oliver. "The next thing you know, he pulled up a chair to watch practice. Then all of sudden he said 'we are offering this kid, the papers will be in the mail."

Oliver said that Oregon State and Washington State both were impressed with Jones when they came to watch practice and said that when they return back to their school he will be put up for an offer to their respective staffs.

Jones had 30 tackles and two sacks at defensive tackle as a junior, but he played more snaps on the offensive line.

One Scout.com report noted Jones as a player to watch in the West this summer and next fall after he stood out at two spring combines.
