Redhawks Respond To Loss In Boulder

Inside, player and coach reaction from the Miami locker room following Colorado's 42-0 win over the Redhawks.

Miami Head Coach Shane Montgomery
In General
"We knew it was going to be a tough match-up on both sides of the ball. They have a very physical front line on offense and defensively they have a really good front seven. They were one of the best defenses in the Big 12 last year and they've played pretty well so far this year.

"We could get nothing going on offense. Daniel (Raudabaugh) struggled early, he got rushed a few times not being able to set his feet. He had to throw a lot off his back foot early."

On Miami's Defense
"Defensively, we just wore down. We're not very big up front. That was one thing we worried about going into this game. We were worried that they would line up and try to pound us and they did. We need to regroup but we still have our destiny in front of us as far as the league is concerned."

On Taking Positives From the Game
"The only positive that can come out of this is the plus three turnover margin today which is the exact opposite of how it has been for us the first three games."

On His Team's Morale
"We haven't given the fans too much to be excited about the first few weeks, but we still have a lot to play for. I told our guys that these last few weeks our character was really going to be tested, we still have everybody in our league ahead of us. We beat maybe the best team in the league right now, Ball State — they took Nebraska to the final second today, it ended up 41-40. We beat the best team in our league right now on paper, but we still have a lot to play for. We need a big crowd out there and hopefully we can give them something to cheer for."

On Colorado's Defense
"We knew they were a very good defensive team. They might've been a little bit better than we expected. We just couldn't get anything going on offense. We knew they were going to be tough."

Miami Players
DB Jeff Thompson
On Colorado's Offense: "They weren't really doing anything we haven't seen. They just came out and played a really good game. We just didn't play like ourselves today. We always expect teams to run on us, because that is seen as an area of weakness for us. Which I don't think it is but that's what people see."

On playing at altitude: "Coming from Miami to here the air is just something different. Good experience but something different. When we started warming up I was sweating a lot more and had a lot of cotton mouth. I couldn't even breathe so I knew we were going to have to get subs in this week. Our coaches kept telling us before the game we have to hydrate, drink water."

On CU QB Cody Hawkins: "He did a good job he led his team well. Especially for a freshman he really stepped up to play today."

P Jake Richardson
On Colorado: "We knew this one would be pretty tough, being a Big 12 team. Colorado has a pretty good team. We didn't play up to the best of our ability, which hurt us. We were prepared to fight, but we got a little more then what we wanted."

QB Daniel Raudabaugh
On CU's Defense: "They have a pretty dynamic defense. They are a good football team. They got good athletes, they fly around. They gave us a bunch of different looks. We knew they were going to do that, scouting them all week in practice. They came out and executed a lot better then we did."
