Maiava Fingered To Start Saturday

True freshman Kai Maiava has been getting the majority of reps with the first team at left guard this week, the position redshirt freshman Wes Palazzi started the first four games. Dan Hawkins said after Wednesday's practice that Maiava will start on Saturday vs. the Oklahoma Sooners.

Hawkins also said freshman tackle Ryan Miller has been working in with the first team at right tackle. Though Miller likely won't start, he'll share time at that position with senior Edwin Harrison Saturday.

Both Kai Maiava and Miller saw their first action in last week's win over Miami-Ohio.

• The Buffs pounded hard on Tuesday, but were in shells during Wednesday's practice. It was the first time in three weeks the Buffs weren't in full pads on a Wednesday.

Hawkins had the team in full pads the past two weeks in an attempt to ignite a sluggish run game. Colorado responded vs. Miami-Ohio with 359 yards on the ground.

• Junior linebacker R.J. Brown will have an MRI Thursday to get an update on his concussion symptoms. Brown will not play Saturday. A report in today's Daily Camera indicated there's a possibility Brown's playing days are through due to recurring concussions.

• Colorado football legend Dick Anderson was in attendance at Wednesday's practice. So was former Colorado offensive lineman Victor Rogers.

• Hawkins wants linebacker Mike Sipili to stay in Boulder while he serves his suspension from the university this semester. The good news is that Sipili plans to return next spring. He will be a sophomore with three years to play three at that time.

Sipili is looking for work either in Boulder or in his native Hawaii until the spring semester begins in January.
