Buffs Earn Verbal Commitment From Combo Guard

Javonte Clanton, a combo guard who will play at Blinn College in Texas this season, visited Colorado this past weekend. He liked what he saw.

The Colorado basketball team received a verbal commitment from Javonte Clanton after he visited CU over the weekend, Tra Arnold, assistant coach at Blinn College, confirmed to BSN Tuesday.

Clanton is a combo guard who will suit up at Blinn this season after transferring there from Niagra University.

"I just think he had a really good feel for the coaching staff and he liked the environment," Arnold said. "He said he had a really good trip up there."

Clanton will play this year at Blinn, a junior college in Brenham, Texas, then transfer to Colorado prior to the 2008-09 season.

"He's a really good kid," Arnold said. "I know that they recruit high-character kids. He's a joy to be around."

Clanton averaged 23 points a game as a senior at Reynoldsburg High in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

Of Clanton's game, Arnold said: "He plays hard all time. He'll fit what they're trying to do up there. He shoots the ball really well, a good team player. He's a hard-nosed type kid. Whatever you need to be done, he'll do it for you. He's just been blessed with the ability to play. He can score off the ball, or he can score with it in his hands."

CU has three more scholarships to fill for the 2008 class.
