Davis Talks Boulder Visit

Colorado is in need of true defensive tackles in this recruiting class. The Buffs earned an official visit from a true DT this past weekend when Houston (Eisenhower) native Rod Davis tripped to CU. Snow hit the ground the day Davis touched down in Colorado. Turns out, that wasn't such a bad thing.

It snowed several inches in Boulder on Friday and Saturday. For Coloradoans, the past few days have been a typical winter stretch. A couple of cold days with flurries, followed by sunshine and melting snow.

For Rod Davis, the snow was a new experience. When BSN asked Davis how his trip to Boulder went, the first thing out of his mouth was: "It was great. Being from Houston, I had never seen snow like that. I think it's only snowed twice since I've been alive out here. It's never cold enough to sit on the ground, so it always melts.

"I got to sled. That was cool."

Davis is Scout.com's No. 9-ranked defensive tackle prospect this year. The 4-star player stands 6-3 and weighs 295 pounds, and took on double-teams all year for Eisenhower, who finished 8-4 in 2007.

He verbally committed to Texas A&M way back in January, but has been open to other programs' interest in the wake of the coaching change in College Station.

"I haven't really narrowed it down," Davis said. "I'm just taking all comers right now."

While Davis said he had considered making his final choice known at an upcoming all-star game, he's now thinking of waiting until Signing Day, which falls Feb. 6 this time around.

He has an official visit set for Florida this coming weekend.

Davis said the CU coaches and players he met on his trip to Boulder left a good impression on him.

"The coaching staff, they're all a close-knit bunch of guys," Davis said. "That makes the players close-knit too. I got to hang out with some of the guys and I fit right in with them. I felt like they were team players, guys I could hang out with and go to battle with."
