Where's P.T.?

Patrick "P.T." Gates is expected to make an immediate — and big — impact on the Colorado backfield this spring...if he's in Boulder. When classes began at CU this week, Gates was still back in California trying to finish up some paperwork in order to secure his academic transfer to the University of Colorado. Where is Gates and what is his status now?

Patrick Gates, the running back who played two seasons at Saddleback Community College, and is trying to transfer to Colorado, is still in California, he told BSN Thursday afternoon.

Gates had hoped to be in Boulder earlier this week to finish his enrollment process and start his classes. (The spring semester began this week at CU).

But Gates is still waiting on a grade from this past semester at Saddleback. He said once the grade is posted to his transcript he will fly to Colorado. He hopes that's early next week.

"I'll probably be out there for the new week on Monday to start my classes and everything," he said. "It'll be a big sigh of relief."

Gates was part of last year's recruiting class at Colorado, but did not complete the required credit hours to transfer to CU last summer, so he spent the fall semester taking classes at Saddleback.

If he indeed is able to enroll at CU this semester, he will compete in spring football. He's expected to compete for a starting position with three scholarship returners, Brian Lockridge, Kevin Moyd and Demetrius Sumler.
