Tinker Down To Two

Wide receiver Ed Tinker has narrowed his choice of schools to two. Inside, find out who made the cut.

Brashear High (Pittsburgh) standout wide receiver Ed Tinker said Wednesday he plans to decide which school to sign a letter of intent with sometime next week. Signing Day is Feb. 6.

With an offer list that includes Colorado, Louisville and Michigan State, as well as a host of others, Tinker told BSN he recently eliminated Michigan State. It's down to CU and Louisville.

Tinker, who tripped to Boulder in September, said he's been in touch with members of the Colorado coaching staff all along.

"I talked to Coach (Eric) Kiesau on Friday," he said of the CU receivers coach.

The 6-1, 188-pounder is currently in the middle of basketball season and is averaging 20 points a game, he said.

Tinker reported a core GPA of 2.4 prior to the winter semester. He scored a 740 on the SAT earlier, and retook the test, hoping to raise his score, this past Saturday.

"It went good," Tinker said of Saturday's exam.

According to the NCAA Division I sliding scale, a student-athlete with a 2.4 GPA on core courses needs an 860 SAT score to become eligible.

Though it typically takes up to a month after an SAT is administered for a test-taker to receive his score in the mail, Tinker said he was told he can call the NCAA Clearinghouse as early as this week to find out his score.

"I'm going to call them (Thursday) to see what my score is," he said.
