Buffs Land Big Texas WR

The Colorado Buffaloes received their first verbal commitment of the current recruiting cycle in recent days when WR Jarrod Darden told coaches he wants to be a Buff.

Jarrod Darden, the 6-5 receiver from Keller Central HS just outside Fort Worth, Texas, first visited Boulder for CU's spring game in April. He liked what he saw enough to schedule an unofficial visit to Colorado this past week. That was all he needed to pull the trigger.

"I committed Thursday," Darden told BSN.

While in Boulder this past week, Darden got the opportunity to spend quality time with CU coaches.

"They told me they really didn't have anybody like me -- height wise -- at receiver," Darden said.

He also got to hang out with a couple current CU wide outs, Patrick Williams and Scotty McKnight.

"We just chilled. I asked them about how Coach Kiesau coaches," Darden said.

Darden said it was more than football that made him like what CU has to offer.

"The atmosphere, the campus and the kind of academics they have -- I like that," Darden added about why he verballed to Colorado.

Darden said he plans to take an official recruiting visit to CU in the fall. He's also holding offers from schools like Texas Tech, Houston, Minnesota, Missouri and North Carolina. Will he take official visits to schools other than Colorado? Darden said no. "I'm done as far as all that," Darden said. "I've committed (to CU)."

Darden had 46 receptions for 739 yards as a junior, and scored 14 touchdowns.
