CU Hoops Teams Announce 2008-09 Schedules

The Colorado men's and women's basketball teams have announced their schedules for the 2008-09 season. Inside, read about the highlights.

Jeff Bzdelik's second season at CU includes 17 home games at the Coors Events Center, nine in the nonconference portion of the slate.

Kathy McConnell-Miller's fourth season as women's coach at CU will also have 17 home contests and her Buffs will play at least 16 games against teams that advanced to either the 2007 NCAA or WNIT postseason tournaments.

The CU men open the 2008-09 season against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Nov. 14) and play eight of their next 13 nonconference games at home before starting the Big 12 Conference season at Missouri (Jan. 14/ESPNU).

CU will take to the road three times in nonconference play with Stanford (Nov. 29) in the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series, at SMU (Jan. 5) and for the first time since the 1999-2000 season, CU will return to the Rainbow Classic in Hawaii for three games from Dec. 27-30.

The Buffs' opponents in Hawaii have not been announced, but the eight-team tournament includes the host Rainbows, Clemson, Colorado State, Coppin State, George Washington, Pepperdine, and Vermont.

After the home opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the Buffs host Montana State (Nov. 18), Harvard (Nov. 22) and Lafayette (Nov. 25). Four more home games round out the month of December with TCU (Dec. 3), in-state rival Colorado State (Dec. 10), Prairie View A&M (Dec. 19) and Louisiana-Monroe (Dec. 23). CU will have one lone nonconference game in 2009 hosting Western State (Jan. 7).

The Big 12 schedule begins for the Buffs in Columbia against the Tigers for the first-time in the 13-year history of the league. CU's conference home opener is against the NCAA Champion Kansas Jayhawks (Jan. 17) on ABC Regional Television. CU will also play to a national televised audience on ESPN, Saturday, Feb. 14 against Texas.

Colorado will be featured on The Big 12 Network (previously branded as ESPN Plus) five times and on ESPNU four times.

Home conference games include Kansas State (Jan. 24/Big 12 Network), Iowa State (Jan. 27), Nebraska (Feb. 4), Missouri (Feb. 21/Big 12 Network), Oklahoma State (Feb. 25) and Texas A&M (Mar. 4/ESPNU).

Road conference games are Texas Tech (Jan. 20), Kansas (Jan. 31/ESPNU), Oklahoma (Feb. 7/Big 12 Network), Iowa State (Feb. 11), Nebraska (Feb. 18/ESPNU), Baylor (Feb. 28/Big 12 Network) and the regular season finale at Kansas State (Mar. 7/Big 12 Network).

The Phillips 66 Big 12 Basketball Championship has changed this season with first round play beginning on Wed., March 11 with the finals on Saturday, March 14 at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Overall, the Buffs have nine NCAA Tournament schools (BU, Clemson, Coppin State {NCAA Play-In game}, KU, KSU, OU, Stanford, UT, A&M) from a year ago and a pair of NIT foes (NU, OSU).
