CU Camp Countdown: Question 8

Colorado opens its 2008 August camp on Monday. BSN is counting down the days with the 10 biggest questions going into August practices. Inside, Question No. 8.

The two CU placekickers vying for playing time, sophomore Aric Goodman and freshman Jameson Davis, were inconsistent in spring ball. The good news is both have the potential to be very good college kickers. The Buffs need at least one of them to be good beginning this fall.

Goodman was a standout at Colorado prep power Cherry Creek before playing as a true freshman at Wyoming in 2006. Goodman led the Cowboys with 48 points that year, making 18-of-20 PATs and 10-of-16 FGs. After sitting out a transfer year last season, Goodman went 4-of-7 on field goals this spring during scrimmages at CU. All four of his makes were from beyond 40 yards.

Davis is an interesting player in that he'll head into his first collegiate season as a 23-year old. He spent a number years after high school on a Mormon mission in Central America. Davis probably has a stronger leg than Goodman, but he struggled on his field goal attempts in the spring, hitting just 2 of 8 in live situations. He was a perfect 7 of 7 on PATs.

Both Goodman and Davis will get the chance to distinguish himself in the coming weeks. But going into camp, it appears both will play this fall.
