The Buffs' pass rush has really yet to recover from former defensive end Abraham Wright's departure after the 2006 season. Including the bowl game, they tallied just 21 sacks in 2007. That ranked CU 95th in the nation in sacks. Only two Big 12 teams had fewer sacks per game than CU.
The fact Colorado will be breaking in new starting cornerbacks this fall adds urgency to the need for the Buffs to get better pressure on the quarterback.
Look for CU continue to mix up its blitz schemes this fall in order to get to the quarterback. They'll try and bring pressure from linebackers and defensive backs, not just from the down lineman.
Head coach Dan Hawkins said the team made progress in that regard during spring ball. But we won't know how much progress until the season gets underway.
