Nate Bonsu, a 6-foot-2, 265-pound product of Allen, Texas, informed CU coaches of his commitment this week,Allen High School coach Tom Westerburg said.
"He's very strong and just a great, motivated kid," Westerburg said. "He plays the game at a very fast speed."
Bonsu was heavily recruited by programs across the nation from Georgia Tech to Washington State. He has scholarship offers from more than a dozen schools, but his trip to Boulder in September made a big impression.
"He really thought he fit in with the coaching staff and the kids," Westerburg said. "He really liked the school and Nate's a real smart kid. He looked at the academic side of it and was really excited about the overall program."
Westerburg said Bonsu is an A and B student and it shows in his heady play on the field.
Bonsu has played at the varsity level for three years. He played the first two seasons as a defensive tackle and switched this season to nose guard when Allen changed to the 3-4 defense. Bonsu and his teammates are preparing for the first-round of the Texas state playoffs this week.
"He demands a double team every once in awhile and really helps our linebacker flow to the football," Westerburg said.
