Checking in with Clark Evans

Colorado football coaches are using two quarterbacks this year with an eye toward the future when they hope to have one capable of handling all aspects of the job. That player might be coming to Boulder as part of the 2009 recruiting class.

Clark Evans, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback at Los Alamitos High School in Southern California is trying to lead his team to a league championship and state title in what has already become a stellar senior season. Evans committed to CU last summer and is looking forward to his days in black and gold.

How has your season gone so far?

"Really good so far. We have one game left to see who wins league. We play Newport this week."

How do you feel you have improved over the year at the quarterback position?

"I have tried to stay in the pocket more, but Coach Barnes has told me this week he wants me to run a little more."

Would you say running is your strength?

"Throwing is my strength, running just comes natural."

How was your trip when you came to Colorado?

"I loved it! I came for the Kansas State game. It was great to be with the team and all the players on game week. It was a really good experience."

Who hosted you on your visit?

"Tyler Hansen, but he was only with me part of the trip because he was getting ready for the game on Saturday. It was really tough to spend a lot of time with him because he was starting his first game. That had to be tough for him to go from being a redshirt to starting his first game that fast. I really like Tyler, I thought he was really cool!"

Do you know much about the other Quaterbacks and have you met Jordan Wynn?

"I met him one time at a camp, it was the Elite 11 Camp at Cal, he seems really cool."

Have you had a chance to watch Colorado on TV much this year?

"Yeah, Ive seen most of their games: West Virginia, Kansas, Texas….It has been a little tough because I have film on Saturdays."

When do you plan to come out to Colorado for school?

"After July Fourth."
