Nuckols favors Buffs

Colorado coaches have made recruiting big, tough defensive linemen a priority in the 2009 cycle and they seem to be doing well with a highly regarded prospect from California.

It has been an up-and-down year for the three-star defensive tackle from San Marcos, California, but Edward Nuckols has a good outlook on the year. Edward and I talked about what stage he is at in his recruitment.

How has the season gone so far for Mission Hills?

"We started off good, but we got a little shaky, now we're starting to pick it up. We're 6 – 3- 1 and heading to the playoffs." Nuckols said he is "staying around 295."

When asked about what trips he has set up, he said, "This weekend I'm going to the University of Arizona, but haven't set up anything else yet……Coach Jeff Hammerschmidt is recruiting me for Arizona."

You mentioned in an interview about a month ago, you were getting some interest from UCLA. Have they offered and would you consider them a favorite if they offered?

"They haven't offered yet, but I would consider them in the top 5 if they did, but I have to learn more about them to be a real favorite."

When discussing favorites, Nuckols says, "I would say that Colorado is my favorite because of the trip and because of the coaches…..they have really stayed in contact with me."

Nuckols really enjoyed his trip to Boulder and said, "I liked the whole Boulder area, and I got good vibes being around the campus and the town. I really liked Boulder; I've never seen anything like that." Nuckols said the game he saw in person was tough for the Buffs going up against a great Texas squad, but "The crowd stayed in the game even though they were down…. That was impressive."

It seemed that Jordan Wynn a former Colorado commit from the San Diego area was helping the CU staff in recruiting Southern California, but this weekend decommitted from Colorado and committed to Utah. Nuckols said, "It wouldn't impact my decision (if Wynn went somewhere else), but it would be nice to play with someone from my area, but it won't impact my decision."

Nuckols clearly stated that CU is "recruiting me hardest…..and I want CU fans to know that they are definitely at the top of my list and maybe one day I will be playing in Black and Gold."

Nuckols did mention that he plans to take the SAT again soon.
