It is alleged that Wright made uninvited sexual advances on a female student after illegally entering her dorm room. He will stand trial on a charge of second-degree burglary.
Mookie Wright was a transfer from Compton Community College in Los Angeles and started 23 games for the Buffs last season. He is one of the top 12 assist men in Colorado basketball history.
Wright was suspended for both semesters of this season, but his appeal allowed him to play through the Christmas break. He joins a long line of point guards that have left Colorado. Chevis Brimmer and Jose Winston left in past years for reasons related to family and playing time. Prior to that, guard transfers and dismissals include the names of: Kirk Williams, Pete Hefty, Damian Paige, Matt Daniel, Keith Higgins, Leroy Carter, and Mack Tuck.
The point guard duties will fall square upon the shoulders of freshman duo Antoine McGee (13 out of 14 starts at the PG position) and Jayson Obazuaye for the remainder of the season. Ricardo Patton has been preparing the freshmen for this responsibility by giving them increased playing time and having Wright tutor them on what to expect in the Big XII.
Buffsinsider special quick fact…
McGee showed his freshman savy and made a wise move in choosing jersey number forty-two. If nothing else, he can ride the power of the number to a few quality starts?
Still can't believe they didn't retire that one! I believe I hold the top 5 career spots for fastest substitutions into and out of a game. (The stat in which we use Swiss timing, in order to measure how long it takes for a player to exit the contest. We're talking recognition to chair time to the tenth of a second.)
