Hansen upbeat after first week

Colorado sophomore quarterback Tyler Hansen is fighting hard to earn the starting job in Boulder over junior Cody Hawkins. Hansen discussed the competition after the first fall scrimmage at Folsom Field today. Get inside for a video interview with Hansen and another with tailback Darrell Scott.

Tyler Hansen was the leading rusher in the scrimmage, running five times for 58 yards. Hansen made the most of breakdowns in protection. Coaches like Hansen's ability to improvise, but they want him to run less and progress through his reads more, standing in the pocket and getting rid of the ball.

Hansen completed 10 of 15 passes today for 137 yards. He did not throw and interception and led his team to five field goals.

Cody Hawkins has done nothing to lose his advantage in the competition, but regardless of how it plays out through the rest of camp, CU fans should feel good about having two capable quarterbacks entering the 2009 season.

Listen to what Hansen has to say about his battle with Hawkins.

We also talked with Darrell Scott after the scrimmage. He attempted to hurdle cornerback Ben Burney on one play early on and fumbled the ball. It was picked up by linebacker Shaun Mohler and nearly returned for a touchdown.
