Loss To Nebraska Hurts CU In Many Ways

The CU men's basketball team has a respectable 11-5 record and is 1-2 in Big 12 conference play, but could easily end up 1-6 very quickly. The Buffs enter a brutal stretch of conference play tonight against KU.

No one said the Big 12 conference was easy and for the CU men's basketball team, their next 6 games will prove that.

It all begins tonight at the Coors Event Center, as the Buffs welcome in the #6 ranked Kansas Jayhawks. KU has won 27 straight against CU and currently has a 10 game winning streak going. The last time CU beat Kansas was in 1991, when the Buffs got by the Jayhawks 79-71.

The losses of Mookie Wright and Jason Carter do not help the situation. If there was one bright spot of the Buffs, it is the fact that they have hung tough with the Jayhawks in recent years. In the past six trips to Boulder, the Jayhawks average margin of victory has been 9 points. Little victories.

The loss to Nebraska this past weekend hurts in many ways. First, NU is probably the worst team in the Big 12 and secondly, it was a winnable game. The Buffs allowed the Huskers to tie the game up at the end of regulation and win it in OT.

The Buffs could regret losing to one of the bottom teams in the conference as they begin the toughest part of their schedule.

After KU tonight, the Buff's schedule is as follows: - @ Texas Tech - @ #21 Missouri - #4 Texas Not fun. The Buffs could easily end up 1-6 in a matter of weeks. This is a key stretch of games not only for the team but the coaching staff as well. The sports talk shows in Denver are rumbling again with the fact the CU basketball program is not competitive in the conference and they have given head coach Ricardo Patton more than enough time to succeed.

Win a game or two in this stretch and the critics will shut up. Get blown out in these games and face the reality of another basketball season going no where.
