Son of Bluejays Talks CU Offer

Marcus Bartley has the opportunity to follow in his parents' footsteps, if he so chooses.

Marcus Bartley, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Decatur, Illinois, has a unique link to Creighton most other recruits don't.

Bartley's parents are Creighton alumni. They have taken their son to Bluejay basketball games in Omaha before he was garnering attention from collegiate coaches. Although his parents are Bluejays, Bartley doesn't feel much pressure to follow in their footsteps.

"What my parents did is decisions they made," said Bartley. "I want to make my own decision and follow my own path. I just want to see it for myself and see what I like about it."

Bartley, who describes himself as a true point guard that specializes in setting up his teammates, has received scholarship offers from upwards of a dozen schools. He received his offer from Bluejay head coach Greg McDermott during the second of three live recruiting periods in July, while playing for the Peoria Irish AAU program.

Northwestern, DePaul, Oklahoma State and Bradley are among the other schools that have offered. Bartley is also hearing from Missouri and St. Louis. He plans to visit the St. Louis campus on Thursday. A visit to Creighton could follow in the coming weeks.

"I think there is a very solid chance that I'll visit there (Creighton)," said the rising senior. "Maybe sometime soon because we're suppose to take a family trip up to Omaha."

Once Bartley determines which schools he wants visit and takes those trips, he'll begin to whittle away his list. He plans to have his commitment made by time his season at MacArthur High begins. Even though he isn't sure what schools will be among his finalists, he knows what he is looking for in his future school.

"I'm just looking for a place where I can have a great relationship with the coaches, and be comfortable in my surroundings, and where I can develop and become the best player I can be," said the three-star prospect.

Even without his parents pressuring him to attend their alma mater, it appears the Bluejays have a lot to offer in the areas the class of 2014 prospect deems important.

"I got a pretty good relationship with the coaches. They were pretty cool guys – that I've talked to so far. The Qwest Center, I've been there for a few games. That's a really nice venue," Bartley answered when asked what appealed to him about Creighton.
