Smith Getting Ready to Set Visits

The senior from Plano, Texas said it's likely he will travel to Creighton.

For much of the past few weeks, the Creighton coaching staff traveled across the country, trying to convince prospects to join of the Bluejays' 2014 recruiting class.

One of their recent quests led them to Plano, Texas, and the home of Zach Smith. Alongside head coach Greg McDermott, was assistant Steve Lutz.

It sounds like Smith's opportunity to visit Omaha could come in the following weeks, however a trip to the Hilltop would not be Smith's first visit to the state. Smith's only official visit to date occurred in late August, when he visited Tim Miles' program.

"It went pretty well," Smith said of the visit to Lincoln.

With four official visits left, Smith said there's a strong likelihood Creighton will receive one of his final trips.

"Oh yeah, there's a pretty good chance," the Plano East product answered when asked if it's likely he takes a visit to Creighton's campus.

He also mentioned he plans to know which schools he will visit by the end of this week.

The Huskers and Bluejays extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-7 wing in the past couple months. Marquette, Texas Tech, Texas Christian and Washington State make up the other notable programs that have offered smith. When it comes time to make a decision, the Texan will be looking at the schools' rosters and style of play; the school's location will not be a strong influence.

No, that's not going to be a factor at all," said Smith.

Smith listed his athleticism and ability to slash as his strengths, and consistent jump shooting as an area he is focused on improving. He claims not to have a "dream school" or a set timetable for a decision.

"I'm hoping to make this decision as early as I can, but, I mean, I'm not going to rush anything," Smith said.
