NCAA Sends Jays to Kansas for Arkansas

The Razorbacks and Bluejays will fight for the right to play the Kansas-Wichita State winner.

The Creighton Bluejays (22-8, 12-4 BIG EAST) had to wait until the end of Sunday night's NCAA Volleyball Section Show to hear their name in the tournament field.

The Jays are traveling to Lawrence, Kansas this weekend to face the Arkansas Razorbacks (16-13, 9-9 SEC).

It marks the third NCAA appearance in the last four seasons for head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth. It marks only the second meeting with the Razorbacks. The first of which took place ten years ago at Hampton Inn/Jayhawk Classic, which was also held in Lawrence. Arkansas won 3-0.

The other game will feature the host Jayhawks (23-7, 12-4), who are the No. 14 overall seed in the field. Ray Bechard's team will face Missouri Valley Conference Tournament champion, Wichita State (28-6, 15-3). This regional runs December 5-6 with Creighton-Arkansas playing at 4 p.m. and will be followed by Kansas-Wichita State at 6:30 p.m. on Fridady. Saturday at 6:30 p.m., the winners will face off.

Creighton has seen both the Jayhawks and Shockers in the regular season, defeating both programs. September 10, in Omaha, the Jays defeated KU 3-1. Then 12 days later, on the 22nd in Wichita, the Bluejays beat the Shockers in a thrilling, five-set match.

Winners from this regional will advance to the Los Angeles where they'll face the winner of the Seattle Regional that features host No. 3 Washington. Then from there winners would advance to the National Semifinals held at KeyArena in Seattle, Washington.
