Will Dayton Land Jake Kelly?

Evaluators from across the country who found time to watch the star-studded Indiana Elite 17 year-old team this July continually came away impressed with a wing from Carmel, IN. Jake once again showed he can shoot the ball from deep with the elite players in the 2007 class but what most were impressed with were the other skills he exhibited.

Jake has worked hard to prove that he is more than just a shooter. He handles the ball with confidence, a key aspect of his improved game, which had the college coaches rushing to see him play late in July.

Dayton Insider had the chance to catch up with Jake after returning from his July tour with Indiana Elite. When asked about his current recruiting situation, Jake mentioned a variety of schools which included a few major conference programs attempting to make a late push. The schools mentioned by Jake are as follows, in no particular order: Dayton, Valparaiso, St. Louis, Iowa, Penn State, Virginia, and Boston College.

When asked about plans to visit a few campuses, Jake responded, "I want to visit Valparaiso, Dayton, and St. Louis next week and then maybe go see Penn State, Virginia, Iowa, and Boston College later in the month."

Dayton Insider asked him if there was a timetable to end his recruitment. Jake says "not really but I want it done early."

I also asked Jake what he liked about the Dayton Flyers. "I love the basketball atmosphere in Dayton. They are a team on the rise and they have already received verbals (commitments) from two top guys (Chris Wright and Devin Searcy). Dayton has been recruiting me the longest and I like the coaching staff a lot."

Jake will likely visit Dayton next week and Dayton Insider hopes to talk to him after he returns to Carmel and see how the visit went. Stay tuned to Dayton Insider to get the latest and hottest Flyer information in town.
