Post Game Analysis: North Carolina A&T

North Carolina A&T entered the Arena tonight fearless and it showed early as the burst out front and took an 8 – 2 lead at the first time out. The Flyers continued to struggle on offense and refused to buckle down on the defensive end until late in the first half. Dayton then took control of the game and never trailed again after taking the lead with just under 15 minutes to play in the game. Player of the Game
Brian Roberts tied his career high in a game tonight scoring 30 points on 11 of 20 shooting. He also dished out 4 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds. This young man took control of the game in the second half and was the main reason the team was able to overcome an early 13 point deficit. Brian started a big run in the second half that helped the Flyers to finally take the lead on back to back driving and one lay ups to put the Flyers up for good. Brian ended the game with 19 second half points and 30 overall. Last game Brian scored 29 and is showing everyone that he is a force to be reckoned with in not just the A-10 but the country.

First Half Could the flyers have started out any worse? They started the game out very sloppy and gave the Aggies confidence that they could compete with the Flyers. Austin Ewing and Steven Rush were shooting lights out for the Aggies and it did not help that the flyers continued to turn the ball over time and time again. They totaled 14 first half turnovers and 10 of them came in the first 12 minutes of the game. London had 5 turnovers alone in the first half showing the Flyer fans that he is still a long way from being the point guard we all want him to be. Coach Gregory tried every combination to make something happen and the team finally responded late in the first half. Charles Little's lay-up cut the lead to 26 – 30 and the Flyers looked like they were on there way. London Warren then made two crucial turnovers and the lead swelled back up to 26 – 35. Dayton would go into the locker room down 29 -35 at the half.

Second Half
Coach Gregory made a very good half time change when the Flyers started the second half with a post game in mind. Right off the bat Marcus Johnson makes a very nice entry pass to Kurt Huelsman who was able to get free for a dunk. Kurt and Charles would stay aggressive and this would make the rest of the team play the same way. No doubt about it though, Brian Roberts was the big difference maker in the second half as he made move after move to get to the basket and finished well. Brian would raise the level of energy and everyone seemed to follow. The Flyers began to lock up the Aggies a lot better on the defensive end and not only took the lead but took control of the game. Dayton extended the lead to double digits and won the game 79 – 66.

Dayton will try and win a tough game on the road as they take on SMU Saturday night. Stay tuned to as they will give you the breakdown and the edge on SMU.
