Chris Wright led all players with 29 points and 14 rebounds. Chris did not disappoint as it took him exactly 11 seconds before everyone came out of their seats to cheer a very impressive tip dunk on the opening possession. Seemed like the only thing Chris did wrong was miss his first 2 free throws of the game.
Trotwood took an early 7 – 2 lead and it looked like everything was going the Rams way right up until there was a little scuffle under the basket and Chris Wright was inches away from a flying elbow from 6'9 Aaron Pogue of Dunbar. Aaron sent a quick message to Chris and his teammates and that was we are bigger and we will not back down.
Future Walsh College commitment Norris Cole and Aaron Pogue both came up big for the Wolverines in their bid for an upset in front of the loud crowd. Norris led the Wolverines with 18 points while big Aaron added 17 points and a team leading 13 rebounds. Add in 2008 Dayton commitment Josh Benson who also brought a solid performance of 11 points and 9 rebounds. Those 3 however, just were not enough to overcome the Trotwood Rams.
The 4th quarter might go down as one of the most exciting High School quarters at UD Arena ever. Trotwood took a 54 – 48 lead going into the final quarter. With just over 6 minutes to play Norris was fouled on a drive and went to the line with a chance to give Dunbar its first lead of the game. Norris did exactly that and on the next possession Josh Benson put the team up 3 with an impressive tip dunk of his own to put the team up 3.
The lead stayed 3 until Dunbar's next possession when Chris Wright got a break away and only Josh Benson stood between him and the basket. Chris took over from just past the free throw line and Josh decided he was going to challenge his dunk. BIG MISTAKE. Chris took off and with Josh hanging on him went up for an incredible dunk and was also fouled. Chris's free throw tied the game and on the next possession Trotwood caused a steal and Chris Wright put the rams up by 2 with an uncontested dunk. Josh Benson helped Dunbar tie the game with a dunk of his own.
Late in the game football star Dominick Britt drove the baseline and gave Chris Wright a nice pass who converted and that put Trotwood up for good 61 – 59. The next possession Chris had his last dunk of the night and put the team up 63 – 59. Josh tried his best to help his team with another dunk to cut the lead to 63 – 61 but they just could not get over the final hump and future Dayton Flyer Chris Wright and his Trotwood teammates won 66 – 64.
This was a night were everyone was impressed by the impressive performance of 4 of the top players in the state of Ohio. It just so happened that Norris, Josh, and Aaron could not out due the performance of Mr. Showtime Chris Wright. Chris will make Dayton Flyer fans feel the energy in the Arena that has not been matched in this city in a long time. Dayton fans will have a common theme next year when Chris takes this city by storm and only one word will describe the atmosphere, SHOWTIME!
