Daimion Garrett getting noticed

With all the hype of AAU basketball and how the shoe companies sponsor every power AAU team in the country there are only a few players who go unnoticed during the evaluation period. Daimion is one of those players that chose to play for a smaller program and will not get the attention that he obviously deserves. Daimion is however a very big prospect and Coach Gregory has taken notice.

Daimion Garrett is a 6'6'' wing forward from F.J. Reitz High School in Evansville, Indiana. Daimion currently plays for the Evansville Future AAU team. With the way AAU teams are put together and the amount of exposure to be gained, many would question as to why Daimion chose to play with his current team. By choosing to play on this "smaller", regional, team he has been able to focus on his individual skill development and improvement rather than gain the exposure of playing on the larger AAU circuit. After watching Daimion and his Evansville Future teammates, one thing is clear – this team needs Daimion and his scoring ability to compete on the summer circuit.

Daimion has a knack for scoring. He can score from pretty much anywhere on the floor and also has a very high skill level for a guy his size. A few weeks ago at the adidas May Classic Daimion put on a show for all in attendance in his team's first pool play game. Dayton Insider was present as Daimion and the Evansville Future went against the Southern California All-Stars out of Los Angeles in Bloomington, Indiana. The high scoring forward did not disappoint as he pumped in the teams first 9 points and set the pace for the game. Although Evansville Future came up a little short (79-83), do not mistake the result for the scoring exhibition of this 2008 Dayton Flyer target. Daimion ended the game with 27 points, 15 before the half, and 12 rebounds. He made 9 of his 11 attempts from the free throw line and hit a couple of three's to display his versatile game.

Daimion spent some time this past weekend on the University of Dayton campus hanging out with both the players and the coaching staff. This was his second trip from Evansville to visit the Flyers (he was joined by his high school coach for a game earlier this year). On this trip Daimion got the chance to show the current Flyers what he was capable of as he ran with them during their open gym. The 6'6'' forward enjoyed his visit and the interest in the Dayton Flyers seems mutual.

Dayton Insider had the chance to catch up with Daimion and ask him how his trip went. "I enjoyed my visit a lot. They (Dayton) have great facilities and both the coaches and players are real cool. I enjoyed playing with the team and I think I played well against them".

When asked where his recruitment stands after his second trip to the Dayton campus he responded, "My list right now includes Purdue, Dayton, Southern Illinois, Indiana, Ball State, Butler, and UE (Evansville)". When asked specifically about a timetable for a decision and where Dayton stands, he noted, "I really do not have a timetable but I can tell you that nobody is recruiting me as hard as Dayton is right now and I like them a lot. I have plans to visit Southern Illinois in the near future and I want to try and visit some others (schools from his list)."

Daimion (Evansville Future) and '08 Dayton commit Josh Benson (Dayton Metro) will both be in attendance in Ft. Wayne this weekend to play in the Memorial Day Run-N-Slam at the Spiece Fieldhouse.

The Dayton staff will be able to get on the road and see Daimion this summer during the "live period" at the Kentucky Hoopfest (Louisville, Ky.) and the Best of Midwest (Illinois). Be sure to stay with Dayton Insider as we keep you up to date with evaluations and news on all Dayton Flyer targets.
