AAU State: Dayton Targets Part 2

Welcome to Part 2 of our series as Dayton Insider once again brings you evaluations on Dayton targets. In this article we will take a look at 2008 recruit Josh Benson and also take a look at another 2008 target in Chris Johnson. We will also breakdown what we saw from 2009 target Aaron Robinson. We hope you enjoy as we continue to provide you with the latest recruiting information.

Josh Benson – 6'10" C (2008) – Dayton Dunbar H.S. (Dayton Metro) – He continues to make big improvements in his game. He showed tremendous improvement in his ability to score with his back to the basket which is a great compliment to his versatility and ability to face up and score off the dribble. Josh's skill level is far more advanced than it was even a few months. He still needs to get stronger and build some stamina as he was clearly a different player in the first half then he was in the second half. Josh also has to be aggressive on the defensive boards. Overall the young man has made great strides and we believe he will continue to grow as a basketball player. He will be an impact player in the A-10 when it is all said and done.

Chris Johnson – 6'4" SF (2008) – Columbus Brookhaven H.S. (All-Ohio Red) – Chris is by far the best player on his team. With his team lacking in quality players it has been hard for the young man to find space as teams are making it nearly impossible for him to get an open shot. Chris does a lot of things well and that is his biggest asset. Most players do 1 or 2 things really well but are lacking in other areas. Chris however is strong in every area. This will benefit him and will force his College coach to play him because he does so many good things for the team. He has a smooth left handed stroke and loves to take the 3 from the corner. Chris is at his best when the game is in flow. He is really impressive with his rebounding and what makes it even more impressive is he can snatch the board and off to the races he goes off the dribble.

Aaron Robinson – 6'3" SG (2009) – Trotwood Madison H.S. (Dayton Nets) – After watching him a few times at the state tournament one thing stood out for us and that was Aaron has the skill level to play D1 basketball right now. He does however need to have the confidence to go with his skills and Aaron lacks the mental strength to gain that confidence. He is still young so this is a deficiency that he can fix but Aaron has to realize he is the best player on the floor and has to make more things happen when the ball is in his hands. Aaron reminds us a lot of David Dees the former stand out from Dayton Christian in the fact that he just does not realize how good he is and how good he can be. David did not figure it out until his senior year and then just took off. Aaron's skills however are very impressive. He has a really nice shot and is as explosive as any player from Ohio in that class.
