Chicago South Suburban Fall League – Week 1

Action at Chicago's Original South Suburban Fall League got underway for the first week at St. Rita High School on Sunday. Play will run every Sunday from 12 to 6 p.m. through October 31st. Following is a recap of the action in week one…

Week 1 Awards

MVP – Macari Brooks 6'3 Sr. Guard Rich South / Hawks

Rich South senior Macari Brooks is by far one of the finest high school athletes in the country. His athleticm is off the charts. Brooks has the ability to get to the basket at will and isn't afraid to get dirty on the defensive end of the floor. Furthermore, it is undetermined whether or not Brooks will take his talents to the junior college level next winter. Brooks is a solidified Division I mid to high major prospect and is being eyed by Providence, Marquette, DePaul, and Iowa to name a few. Brooks started off the first week with a 24 point, 9 rebound performance.

SENIOR RISER – Tevin Harris 6'5 Sr. Forward Providence St. Mel / Hawks

Senior Tevin Harris finished Sunday afternoon as the only player in league action to record a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Harris who hails from Providence St. Mel, a small catholic school in Chicago, has the ability to be a great four man at the next level. For now, Harris is a Division III steal with the potential to be a Division II student-athlete. He's someone to keep on your tacking board!

JUNIOR PROVER – Dusko Despot 6'6 Jr. Forward Glenbard South / Magic

Dusko Despot emerged as Sunday's leading scorer, recording 24 points while hauling in 6 rebounds to lead the Magic past the Celtics. Despot, a Serbian native, has a great build for a high school junior and is looking to have a breakout year for the Glenbard South Raiders. Despot could develop into a scholarship player in the next two years.

FRESHMAN STUD – Dominique Matthews 6'0 Fr. G St. Rita / Clippers

St. Rita freshman Dominique Matthews started his freshman fall campaign with a bang. Matthews poured in a team high 13 points as the Clippers defeated the Lakers 71-63 in week one action. Matthews, who will become a household name in the Illinois High School basketball scene played alongside national prospects Paul White and Jahlil Okafor for the Ferrari AAU program prior to arriving at St. Rita.

All 10 Nuggets players registered two or more points in their 76-58 victory over the Suns. Senior Julian Lewis (6'4) of Homewood Flossmoor led all scorers with 23 points including a pair of thunderous dunks. Lewis has drawn interest from Loyola University of Chicago and Western Illinois University. He plans to visit both schools in the near future. Lewis was aided by Thornton Township senior Sefan Beard (6'5) who added nine points and seven rebounds.

TEAM PLAYER AWARD – Jabbar Adekoya 6'6 Sr. F Andrew / Lakers

6'6 Senior Jabbar Adekoya from Andrew High School is going to be a nice pickup for any Division III or NAIA program. The forward finished with 15 points and six rebounds in his league debut. Adekoya has the body frame and work ethic to be successful at the next level.
