DePaul to Tipoff Season with Blue Madness

CHICAGO - The 2010-11 men's and women's basketball seasons kick off next weekend with Blue Madness and the annual Open Practice. Both events take place at McGrath Arena on DePaul's Lincoln Park campus and are free for fans, students and supporters.

All of the action kicks off Friday night with Blue Madness. On Saturday afternoon, fans will have the opportunity to catch an hour of both the men's and women's basketball team's open practices from 1-3 p.m.

Both events will be a great opportunity to see new men's head coach Oliver Purnell and women's coach Doug Bruno lead their teams through workouts. Bruno recently returned from the Czech Republic with a gold medal after serving as an assistant coach for USA Basketball at the FIBA Women's World Championship.

Blue Madness gets underway at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15 and features scrimmages and a three-point contest for each team. The Hot Boyz from Power 92 (92.3 FM) will be broadcasting live from McGrath Arena from 6-10 p.m. and also hosting Blue Madness. To continue with the Chicago flavor, the city's own Bucket Boyz will be performing and a number of great prizes including an iPad will be given away during Blue Madness. Get there early for free t-shirts as the doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday's open practice is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. with the women's team taking the court in the first hour followed by the men's team at 2 p.m. Doors open for the practice at 12:30 p.m. and the first 200 fans in attendance get a boxed lunch and t-shirt.

The exhibition portion of the season opens later this month on Oct. 30 with games for both the men's and women's basketball teams. The day starts with the DePaul volleyball team hosting Connecticut at 2 p.m. before the women's basketball team hosts Northwood University at 5 p.m. The tripleheader wraps up with the men's basketball exhibition game also against Northwood at 7 p.m.

Season tickets are on sale now at the DePaul ticket office by calling (773) 325-SLAM. Men's basketball season tickets start at just $99 and a variety of mini-plans are also available. Fans can purchase women's basketball season tickets for as low as $99 while a special "Bruno Bunch" ticket package includes the home opener, the Maggie Dixon Classic (four games), Stanford and a BIG EAST Conference home game of your choice for only $25.
