Game Preview

In part two of Mid-American Conference week at Allstate Arena, DePaul (2-4) faces Central Michigan (2-4) on Sunday.

The Chippewas opened their new renovated arena on Wednesday night and were disappointed with a 65-53 loss to Temple.

Jalin Thomas scored 17 points in 17 minutes in the first half and ended up with a career-high 26 points. 18 of his points came from behind the arc.

The player that will be most interesting to watch on CMU's squad is freshman guard Trey Ziegler. Ziegler is a four star prospect who had offers from high-major schools like UCLA, yet decided to stay home and play for his father – head coach Ernie Ziegler.

Ziegler is averaging 16.5 points per game and is one of the leading freshmen scorers in the nation. Temple managed to hold Ziegler to five points on two for 11 shooting and two rebounds.

Rebounding was CMU's Achilles heel in the Temple game. The Chips were outrebounded by a 40-24 margin. That's likely good news to DePaul coach Oliver Purnell whose team has been struggling on the glass.

CMU's only wins are against Cal State Fullerton in Hawaii and a 62-52 win over UIC here in Chicago. They've been close in other games, two of their four losses came in overtime.

The Blue Demons hope to build on Thursday's 86-84 win over NIU by completing a sweep of MAC schools this week.

The Last Time

DePaul has only faced CMU one time in school history. In a 2002 home opener, the Blue Demons dominated the Chips in a 92-56 rout. Delone Holland scored 20 points and Sam Hoskin contributed with 17.

Future NBA center Chris Kaman came in averaging 20.5 ppg and 11.5 rebounds per game and was held to six points and three rebounds.

Drake Diener added 16 points for DePaul. Quemont Greer and Joe Tulley chipped in with 12 points each. Andre Brown added eight points and 11 rebounds.
