Game Preview

With a win on Wednesday night, DePaul coach Oliver Purnell will get his 400th career win. DePaul (5-6) would also win their fifth straight game at Allstate Arena and would get to .500 in non-conference play.

The Blue Demons have been making incremental improvements of late and it showed with their balanced scoring in Saturday's 81-74 win over Loyola.

"We made a lot of progress," said DePaul coach Oliver Purnell. "Our practice habits are getting better."

DePaul has found a solid young nucleus in freshmen Brandon Young and Cleveland Melvin, and sophomore Tony Freeland. They now need to find a way to build on that nucleus.

Florida Atlantic (8-5, 2-0 Sun Belt) comes in already owning two wins over BCS schools Mississippi State and South Florida.

Former St. John's coach Mike Jarvis' team features Cousy Award nominee Alex Tucker who is averaging 9.3 ppg. Sophomore guard Greg Gantt is leading the Owls with 13.8 ppg on the season.

Point guard Raymond Taylor was named Sun Belt Player of the Week on Tuesday. In the Owls' last two games, Taylor averaged 22 points and was the leading scorer in both games.

One area where DePaul might be able to capitalize is forcing FAU into turnovers with Purnell's press. FAU committed a season-high 20 turnovers in their 60-58 win at Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday night.

- Wednesday's game is the first meeting between the two programs.
