DePaul's Melvin to Miss Rest of Season

CHICAGO – DePaul head coach Oliver Purnell announced today that freshman Cleveland Melvin will miss the rest of the 2010-11 season with a sprain of the thumb on his left hand.

Cleveland Melvin injured his thumb in DePaul's game at St. John's on Wednesday and was held out of Saturday's game against South Florida at Allstate Arena.

Melvin was leading DePaul in both scoring (14.3 ppg) and rebounding (6.3 rpg) this season. He is a Big East Rookie of the Year candidate and was named Big East Rookie of the Week four times this season.

Brandon Young Named Big East Rookie of the Week

With Melvin sidelined on Saturday, DePaul freshman guard Brandon Young stepped up in his absence and scored 23 points in a loss to South Florida.

The Big East recognized Young's performance and named him their Big East Rookie of the Week for this week.

It was the second time this season that Young has won the award. Brandon averaged 14 points and 2.5 assists on the week.
