Brownridge Enjoys Great July

With college coaches watching in July, now is the time to perform. One of the prospects to emerge out of the St. Louis Summer Classic was Illinois Wolves guard Jared Brownridge. The 2013 shooting guard hit shots from all over the floor and DePaul is interested in getting him on campus.

Jared Brownridge is a guard with a thick body that showed he can knock down perimeter shots from all levels. He is a tough defender that rebounds at a high level. The rising junior agreed with this assessment when talking about his game.

"I would consider myself a combo guard because I can score, but also have the ability to bring the ball up the court," said Jared. "Shooting is one of my strengths and defense is another. I try to keep people in front of me and work real hard on defense."

The month of July has been good to Brownridge as he has played solid and continued to further intrigue scouts and coaches.

"July has been pretty good," Browridge said. "It has actually gone by faster than I thought it would, but it has been a great experience and I love playing with my team."

How does he think he has performed in front of the decision makers?

"I think I have played pretty good, but I have never reached my potential," Jared said. "I have to go back home, continue practicing, and work on some things."

He plays on one of the highest profile teams in the state in the Illinois Wolves 16 and under squad alongside high major targets up and down the roster. Brownridge was the team's MVP as they won the 16U bracket championship in St. Louis.

"It is a great program," Brownridge said of the Wolves. "We have great coaches and they teach us well. We go out there and play as a team."

Brownridge flew under the radar despite averaging 17 points as a sophomore for Waubonise Valley last season.

"I think the season went well, but it didn't end how we wanted," said Brownridge. "We lost in the first round of the regionals. I think we will be better next year."

He is not a secret anymore as Bradley, Creighton, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois and UIC have recently offered and other schools including DePaul are interested in getting him on campus for a visit.

"Missouri State, Santa Clara, Loyola, Drake, and Bradley are pretty interested in me," said Brownridge.

His recruitment with all schools is in the early stages and says he is going to start looking at what he wants in a school. He has put himself on the radars of mid-major plus schools and will be hearing from several more schools now that the July evaluation period is over.
