Hawkins Scheduling Visits

The NCAA's November signing period is coming up fast and Deontae "Teddy" Hawkins has some official visits to take before making his decision on where he will sign. Learn more about the Class of 2012 combo forward prospect from Dayton in this report.

DePaul coach Oliver Purnell already has two prospects committed for 2012 in DeJuan Marrero and Jodan Price. He'd like to add a third name to that signing list.

Deontae Hawkins could be that third prospect. Hawkins is scheduled to visit DePaul this weekend where he'll watch the Blue Demons take on Lewis University in an exhibition game on Saturday night.

Hawkins has already been to Auburn and Creighton on official visits. Teddy also plans on visiting Wichita State the weekend of November 12th. The University of Dayton is also in the mix for Hawkins should he decide to stay in his hometown.

"I'm trying to get all these visits in before the season starts, so I can get focused and ready for the season," said Hawkins.

DePaul coach Oliver Purnell was in Dayton, Ohio last week to see Hawkins in action at Dunbar High School. Purnell is familiar with the area having coached the Dayton Flyers from 1994 to 2003.

Purnell must have liked what he saw. Hawkins is a versatile forward capable of scoring both inside and outside.

The 6-8, 180 lb. forward played on the AAU circuit for All Ohio Red this summer. He is rated as a 3-star prospect by Scout.com. As a junior at Dunbar, Hawkins averaged 16.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots per game.

Hawkins would suit DePaul's uptempo style of play.

"I like to run," said Hawkins. "I like to get up and down the court. I like it fast paced."

With this weekend in his site, Hawkins is high on the Blue Demons.

"They are pretty good," Hawkins said of DePaul. "They play some good basketball. They are playing in the Big East, so you're playing against all the good competition. They have some good history."
